I just published my first few notes on Substack Notes. It would be awesome if you would join me and the rest of the writers of The Science of Sex there if you haven’t already. You can access the notes through the Substack app or the web browser.
Aside from that, I’ll be discussing evolutionary psychology quite a bit this month as I’ve done a lot of research on the subject lately. I think it’s an important tool, but I’m also critical in that I think many people have taken evolutionary psychology as a gospel of sorts.
Whenever I dig through the research, I find an incredible number of very weak links that are passed off as solid evidence. This evidence is then weaved together to formulate a weakly-held-together narrative that’s compelling—and makes headlines—but the foundation is shaky, to say the least.
I recently did a review of David Buss’ book When Men Behave Badly: The Hidden Roots of Sexual Deception, Harassment, and Assault. I wasn’t a huge fan, but my stances might help people who consider evolutionary psychology to be a divine god among the sciences.
I’m editing my latest conversation with
and preparing for this month’s discussion with the awesome sex researcher and psychologist David Ley, Ph.D. We’ll be talking about how culture and society affect us as sexual beings.I’ve also written a new podcast episode that covers an older article I wrote, Why Men Like To Watch Their Partners Have Sex. Whether, like me, you’re not in a hotwife or cuckold relationship, or like many others, you are in a hotwife or cuckold relationship, the topic is certainly fascinating, so hopefully, you all will enjoy that solo talk.

Now, more about Notes…
Notes is a new space on Substack for us to share links, short posts, quotes, photos, and more. I plan to use it for things that don’t fit in the newsletter, like work-in-progress or quick questions.
How to join
Head to substack.com/notes or find the “Notes” tab in the Substack app. As a subscriber to The Science of Sex, you’ll automatically see my notes. Feel free to like, reply, or share them around!
You can also share notes of your own. I hope this becomes a space where every reader of The Science of Sex can share thoughts, ideas, and interesting quotes from the things we're reading on Substack and beyond.
Why Substack Notes
Fellow writers and readers are spending time in Notes for a variety of reasons.
Ted Gioia sees Notes as a forum for dialogue.
The idea behind Notes is simple. Millions of people now participate in Substack as writers and readers—but much of this is built on long articles and essays. We now have a forum for dialoguing and sharing shorter posts.
Chris Ryan is drawn to Substack as an alternative for legacy social media.
One of my main reasons for joining Substack was to wean myself off exploitative social media platforms. I’m hoping this is going to help move us along on that journey!
Sherman Alexie wants to create a kind and creative new space in Notes.
I’m going to focus on being positive, with my own thoughts and photos and by linking to songs, stories, poems from around the web and from other Substacks.
If you encounter any issues, you can always refer to the Notes FAQ for assistance. Looking forward to seeing you there!
