Meet the Sex Toy That Allows You to Play Video Games With Your Vagina
This Kegel exerciser comes with an app and even games you can play
Earlier this year, my writing took a big slump. Between life, the pandemic, moods, monthly cycles, and cheese, I’m tangled up in a web of responsibilities that I need to take care of in life. Besides all these things, I’ve also been fascinated by a new game I’ve started playing. And I’ve been playing it with my vagina.
For those who haven’t heard, there are now devices that bridge the gap (pun intended) between sex toys, exercise equipment, and video games. There are countless different companies in the market right now, from the Joy ON Kegel Exerciser to the Elvie Trainer Exerciser, but I opted for the one that looked the most fun of the bunch — meet Perifit.
The goal of all of these things is to make your Kegel exercises more interesting. And at that, Perifit is a major success.
Perifit is a device that looks sort of like a vibrator. It’s pink with a white base and it comes with an app to use while you strengthen your Kegels by using the device. You insert the device and flex on it, and it measures the resistance and sends that data to your smartphone.
Ever seen those punch-tracking machines that UFC fighters punch to find out how hard they punch? It’s like that, only for your Kegels.
For those not yet in the know, your Kegels are the muscles in the vaginal area (penile area for men), and they control the flow of urine when you go pee. While you’re peeing, if you have to suddenly stop, you’ll flex your Kegel muscles to do it.
Kegel floor exercises have been a thing since before I was alive. It seems like they’ve been all the rage since the seventies and have shown no signs of stopping. And for good reason.
Any woman who’s experienced that uncomfortable feeling of letting loose after a sneeze (you know what I’m talking about) knows the frustration of weakened pelvic floor muscles (Kegels).
Mayoclinic says Kegel exercises can help you if you pee a bit when you sneeze, if you suddenly have to pee really bad, or if you’re incontinent.
Numerous blogs and websites, as well as basic intuition, suggest that Kegels can help us have better sex by helping us flex the muscles down there when we’re with our partners. This is theorized to make us “tighter” and cause more friction during penetrative sex.
While the smartphone app it comes with will measure the pressure you give the device, the thing that really drew me to Parifit was the fact that you can actually play video games with it.
And I can’t tell you how much fun I’ve been having since this thing arrived.
I bought it on Amazon at the same time a couple of my closest friends bought theirs. After some discussion, we decided to go all-in on Kegel video games and have competitions with each other (highly recommended).
It arrived one day behind schedule after there was a problem with my Prime delivery. The day before it arrived, I’d caught myself staring out the window and looking for the unmistakable Amazon truck to arrive to drop off my package.
Yes, I was that excited. Don’t judge me. But finally, the box was waiting on my doorstep the following day, and I was ready to go.
Once it arrived, I immediately called my boyfriend into my room to take a look at it. We unboxed it together.
I had plenty to do that day, but we managed to squeeze some time and fit it in that evening. Puns fully intended, yet again.
When I first tried it, I opened up a game where there was a blue sky in the background and clouds that you could control by flexing your Kegel muscles.
As time went on, gems and rocks flowed toward the top of the sky. My job was easy enough: to flex and move the clouds so that I blocked the rocks while letting the gems pass. If it were a Nintendo game, it would be a piece of cake. But doing this with your Kegels is harder than it initially looks.
It’s easy to rev it up and get the clouds moving. It’s tough to stay flexed for a long period of time, and this is where the exercise part comes in. While trying to play the game, you’re using a whole new set of muscles, which takes a bit of practice.
But over time, it’s theorized that consistent use of the muscles will lead to a more toned and tightened pelvic floor. Which can stop all the problems listed above and (possibly) lead to better sex.
It gives you scores at the end of each level and lets you know how you did.
Not too bad, eh?
Then I played another game where I was a bird that felt oddly reminiscent of Angry Birds, but with a different setup. With this game, you’re chasing around little coins instead of smashing birds into objects or other birds.
Imagine playing Sonic the Hedgehog with your lady parts.
Because that’s precisely what it’s like. Take a look…
I wondered if the novelty would quickly wear off, and it would get old, but it’s been a couple of weeks, and it still hasn’t happened yet. I’m determined. And my partner is so unbelievably supportive. We laughed as I used it in the living room while we hung out on the couch.
Will it make me even more of a pro at sex? I’m not entirely sure. I did a search, and the research was scant on sexual enjoyment and Kegel exercises, but in theory, it sounds legit. And playing games with my vagina is the now-checked-off item on my bucket list that I didn’t know I had or needed.
If you’ve been looking for a fun way to tone up your pelvic floor muscles, I suggest giving Perifit a shot. If you’re an old-school Nintendo junkie like me, you’ll probably fall in love with it.
I only have one question. Does this technically count as a “wearable?”
