Speaking Freely: Women's Pleasure, Facts and Fiction With Carlyn Beccia

Carlyn and I recently had another conversation. This time we discussed a variety of topics regarding women's pleasure.

Welcome to The Science of Sex, Speaking Freely. I’ve got a few different formats so far. Some of my talks are interviews, like the one I did with Nicole Prause, Ph.D. about the myth of porn addiction. Others are more informal and free flowing, like my discussions with Carlyn.

Whenever you see Speaking Freely, it’ll be a casual conversation about whatever topic is interesting us at the moment.

Today,

and I discuss women’s pleasure from several different angles. We cover the mechanics of women’s pleasure—and she brought props; we cover the orgasm gap; we discuss some of the problems with the scientific research, some of our favorite studies we read, and we close it off by getting into the political weeds, discussing the surge of anti-LGBTQ/anti-sex education bills sweeping the United States at the moment.

Go check out Carlyn’s articles.

She mentions this article quite a bit in the interview. And anyone with a modicum of interest in women’s pleasure should check it out for the knowledge bombs she drops in it. It’s titled 8 Fun Facts About the Female Erection Every Man With An Erection Should Know.

If you’re not already a Medium member, sign up through this link so you can get an email every time she publishes on Medium. Plus, Carlyn will get a few dollars from your monthly subscription if you become a paid subscriber.

Another crucial piece of reading that we discuss is this article, available right here on The Science of Sex:

I mention the information in this article of mine in the beginning, Science Explains the Top Four Sexual Techniques to Enhance Her Pleasure. I did my best to describe the mechanics of pleasing a woman in the video, but the text version is great.

And while we didn’t mention it, if you’re curious about the topic of women’s pleasure, this article might be of interest to you as well.

It was a great conversation and, as you can see, we both had a lot of fun. We’re considering making this a monthly conversation. What do you think? We’d love to hear your feedback.

And stay tuned. In a little less than two weeks, I’ll be having another conversation with sex researcher and licensed clinical psychologist with a specialty in sexuality, David Ley, Ph.D., about the attacks on human sexuality going on right now.

Dr. Ley will bring years of clinical practice and expertise to the table as we hopefully discuss a plethora of topics, from how to achieve sexual freedom in a sex-shy culture to what the hell is going on with the sudden war on sex in America.
