Thank you again for subscribing to The Science of Sex, where we’ll be exploring everything from the universal sexual experiences we all share, to all the strange, bizarre, and unusual oddities of human nature as it pertains to sex.
I’ve been digging into a lot of archaeology lately (double entendre, yes!), as well as evolutionary biology, so I hope you’re ready for a glimpse into the past, as we uncover the sex lives and sex relations of our distant prehistoric ancestors.
Of course, this will help us to inform our day-to-day lives, as we better understand where we came from, what shaped our evolution, and what things about our evolution we might want to change.
There’s something spellbinding about the tales of our human and pre-human ancestors.
With that, here’s the new stuff from The Science of Sex, starting with the exclusives and then working our way to the free stuff.
Exclusives for Paid Subscribers
How Men Evolved to Be Bullshitters is the latest and in case you’re thinking it’s going to be an angsty feminist diatribe devoid of science, think again. The story explores the interplay between testosterone, tribal warfare, self-deception, and bullshit, and it covers everything from chimpanzees to early human tribal societies, up to the present day with all the craziness we see in our news feeds every day.
Are We Living Through a Porn Epidemic? Here’s What the Science Has to Say explores the claims that we’re living through a destructive epidemic of internet pornography that’s having a profound negative impact on our health. There are a lot of twists and turns and a lot of myths uncovered. Turns out, a lot of the propaganda about the harmful effects of pornography, the stuff we take as fact, was distributed by organizations established by the Mormon Church (LDS) for the purposes of moral policing. Does porn cause ED? Does porn cause violence? All of these questions are addressed.
There are also two articles that touch on self-help. They’re based in science, of course, and they have a philosophical bend to them. If you’re trying to have better sex, check out What Are Your Sexual Prototypes and How Do They Affect Your Life, which discusses the images of what sex ought to be like that we have in our heads, and Novel Study Investigates the Link Between Psychological Flow States and Better Sex.
This piece describes the research into flow states and how they could possibly help us to have better, more focused sex.
These pieces will be released on Medium shortly. Subscribe to my emails there if you aren’t already.
Do Women Really Enjoy Double Penetration? is another exclusive from this month. Care to take a guess what it’s about? You’re damn right. I wanted to do a deep dive into women’s experiences when it comes to double penetration. I discuss the shifting definitions of DP, how and why women enjoy it, how often we fantasize about it vs. how often we actually do it, as well as the anatomy of why it’s pleasurable for those who do enjoy it.
From that, I offer some tips, both from the science and from women who enjoy it, on how you can incorporate double penetration into your sex life, should you feel so inclined.
I have to take a moment to recommend an older article because I just love it so much. Why Do We Have Sex? The Evolution of Sex in Humans & Animals is a fascinating exploration of how and why sex evolved, how there came to be two sexes (as opposed to unisex organisms that reproduce asexually), and more. I discuss tiny organisms, cannibal genetics, disease, evolution, and how all these things came together to create the sexes and sex.

I’d like to welcome Carlyn Beccia to The Science of Sex. Carlyn has been a prominent writer for Sexography over on Medium, and we’ve had a lot of discussions and worked together on that platform.
Carlyn dropped her first article on the Substack here and wanted to keep it free for all readers. It’s all about dicks.
The story is called 7 Penis Myths Men Wish Women Would Stop Believing, and she intends to release a complimentary article, one about myths women wish men would stop believing, soon.
There are also the following stories available to all users, free or paid, and they’re public, so feel free to share them with your friends:

Thank you again for your readership, and you have no idea how much we appreciate each and every “like” we get on our articles. We spend countless hours researching, contemplating, and drafting these articles. We sincerely appreciate your feedback on them.
We have a short, six-question form where you can make suggestions for future topics and give us any feedback you think we should hear.
Last bit of news, I’m going to alternate between sending emails per article and sending weekly wrap-ups like this one. I don’t want to clutter your inbox, but at the same time, if I think a new article is truly fascinating, I’ll send it to you directly.
